Thanks Chad! I agree with your assessment of the caricaturing done by some scholars and it is disappointing. The endnotes are pretty good. He is doing some good work, primarily outside of the Biblical studies field and pretty standard stuff within the realm of postmodern thinking. Sadly, he is not interacting very much with the likes of Dunn, Wright, Campbell, or Ehrensperger (he mentions Wright as an influence on a number of occasions).

Huh?... saw this at the bookstore and thought it was just a reprint of "A New Kind of Christian" with a new jacket. I LIKE that McClaren injests a lot of scholarly work which takes the Bible seriously and translates it for a broader audience. I DISLIKE that people (cough*Carson*cough) tend to caricature McClaren's cliff note versions of serious theology and dismiss some really important theological engagements. I would love to hear who's cited in the endnotes. Looking forward to your posts.

Tim, I read a ton of reviews and decided it was worth reading. I think it might be one of "those" books. If you know what I mean.

Bring it on! Maybe it'll save me from reading it, but I'd surely enjoy your synthesis.
